What is CrossFit?
Here at Outerbridge CrossFit, we follow a functional strength and conditioning program originally designed by CrossFit’s founder and CEO, Coach Greg Glassman. According to Coach Glassman, “CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.”
In plain English, this is a program designed to enhance your strength and functional movement of the daily activities of every person over the longest period of time—life—whether you are the athlete, the student, firefighter, military or mother. Your performance at various activities will increase whether you are climbing ladders or climbing stairs, running for a pass or your toddler. CrossFit allows you to be both mentally and physically prepared for any situation—carrying groceries, a backpack or another person on your back!
At Outerbridge CrossFit we will implement movements from many different sports such as gymnastics, Olympic weight lifting and track and field. We are constantly changing the workouts and movements so your body is always adapting to change—AND—it’s never boring! With the constant variance in workouts you will quickly become stronger, faster and better conditioned. There is NO avoiding hard work in life, so why should fitness be any different? CrossFit demands so much, but gives back more than you could ever imagine, both mentally and physically.
Have you seen CrossFit videos? Seen the CrossFit games on television? Maybe seen the latest Reebok commercials? Your first thought is “I can’t do that!!” THIS IS FALSE! Do not underestimate yourself…do not underestimate us at Outerbridge CrossFit. We are providing a foundation for functional based exercises that will start at the simplest levels and work upwards to the performances you see on the internet of television. We here at Outerbridge CrossFit are willing to put in the time and effort to make your life better…are you? If so, soon you will be telling others “I CAN DO THAT!”
So, it’s hard work. Is it dangerous? Anything done without practice, without training or without good judgment can be dangerous. Crossing the street can be dangerous. When joining our CrossFit classes, you will receive personalized attention and instruction, with workouts scaled to your abilities to make you experience safe as well as fun. Our well-qualified staff will help you develop confidence as well as skills. There’s not time like the present to learn something new…to develop the athlete in you.
